Day of the Dead Parade

Living legacy in Mexico City.

In the heart of Mexico, the Day of the Dead shines as one of the most beloved and colorful traditions. This cultural heritage is splendidly manifested in the Day of the Dead Grand Parade, which embellishes one of Mexico City’s most iconic avenues. The street is transformed into a colorful festival, adorned with majestic giant skulls, sparkling cempasúchil flowers and costumes of characters that evoke the richness of Mexican folklore.

The Deep-Rooted Significance

The Day of the Dead, or Día de Muertos, is a time-honored Mexican holiday that dates back to pre-Hispanic times. Originally celebrated by the Aztecs, Toltecs, and other Nahua people, it was believed that during this period, the souls of the deceased could return to the world of the living to be with their families. Unlike the somber tone of other cultures’ death-related traditions, Día de Muertos is a vibrant celebration of life and death, where the memories of loved ones are cherished and honored.

A testament of this joyful celebration is this grand festival, adorned in vivid colors. First introduced in 2016, the parade has quickly become a highly anticipated event, attracting thousands of visitors from around the world.

About the event
